A Christian View of Psychology
PRESENTER: Bailey Wiltshire
This presentation will provide an overview of the field of psychology and its key commonalities with Biblical Christianity. Common misconceptions about psychology will be discussed, as well as the unique hope we hold as Christians regarding mental health and psychological wellbeing. This presentation will also include a panel discussion of Christians working in various fields of psychology.
Presented by Bailey Wiltshire
Bailey Wiltshire recently defended her PhD in Psychology from the University of Canterbury and is in her last few months of her training as a clinical psychologist. She has clinical experience working in specialist mental health, physical health, corrections, and child and family settings. After completing her training, Bailey hopes to work as a clinical psychologist in the public health system.
Bailey came to faith at age 21 after spending several months during COVID lockdowns wrestling with doubts about the validity of Christianity. Apologetics resources, such as those offered by Thinking Matters, helped her come to see that the Gospel is both good and true.
Bailey is passionate about the intersection of psychology and the Bible. She believes that Jesus, who is “gentle and lowly in heart,” models how we ought to love one another and carry each other’s burdens. Through her talk, she hopes to convey that psychology reflects that our thoughts, emotions, and desire for connection are reflections of God’s heart and character.
